JASON ISBELL CHARLOTTE NC POSTER // FINAL ART

Here is the final art for the poster - tried to give it a real authentic vintage feel like the stuff you sent over. Charlotte has a really rich racing history (nascar hall of fame is there and a few tracks) so I thought something automotive themed could be cool - let me know what you think! This is set up to be 16x20 and 3 colors.

CHARLOTTE POSTER CONCEPTS UPDATE

Here are a few ideas that are more conceptual.  i felt like some of the themes of the record centered around the idea of duality - light/dark, love/death, old/new, rural/urban, etc.... I tried to keep this in mind when working on these.

the idea here would be to illustrate this bouquet as a collage, so each flower would be made up of a different dark image, graveyards, trash, ugly factories, etc... all of the dark imagery combines to create a beautiful bouquet.

This is pretty purely abstract/nonobjective - kind of like the blue note inspired tour poster sketches we did earlier this year... this one could also be cool as a collage with different contrasting images and textures making up the shapes.

a traditional bleeding heart image, stylistically I think this could look really cool with a grungy lo-fi look...

flowers emerging from a vase that would be drawn to look like the body of a guitar - this would be refined more to really sell the illusion.

JASON ISBELL CHARLOTTE POSTER CONCEPTS

Here are a few different ideas for the Charlotte poster - these were all inspired by lyrics from the new record.

"The ground was wet and the sky was dark / You took her bet, she took your heart / Wrapped it 'round an oak tree / Like you did that '67 GTO"   ----- This poster would feature a smashed up GTO, I would really like to try drawing it in a sort of loose graphic & gestural style.

Same smashed up car idea, but this time placed in a scene beneath a big starry night sky, the type could go in the full moon.

Inspired by the song 'Molotov' - I think this idea could work really well executed with some cool vintage inspired typography and flourishes. Maybe something inspired by old fireworks packaging or matchbook graphics. The rag in the molotov cocktail would have a dainty floral pattern.

Inspired by the song 'if we were vampires' - A blood-stained vampiric hand clutching a cigarette, with abstract shapes flowing out of it. I think it would be really cool to do create the abstract shapes by collaging different old photographs related to life and death, so like each shape would be cut out from a different image...

I think this could also look really great printed on Manila tag (see below)

ISBELL TOUR POSTER UPDATE

Here is the poster with anchor and bird incorporated in a few different colorways - did a quick texture treatment, but would probably take another pass at it if we go with this direction.

REVISED TOUR POSTER CONCEPTS

it could be cool to print these as a tryptich, they would need to be resized to 12x24 to be printed 3 up but I think any of the concepts on this page could work really well as a set.

JASON ISBELL // TOUR POSTER CONCEPT SKETCHES

Here are a few rough directions for the poster - I'm a huge fan of old blue note & folkways album art so I was pretty excited to see you sent those over as reference material. This kind of style is hard to convey in a pencil sketch so I did these digitally - but please think of them as sketches still - colors, typefaces, etc all subject to possibly change throughout the process.  Let me know if y'all are into any of these and we can keep pushing in that direction. Ideally the goal would be to faithfully recreate the style, including little logos and some small filler copy like dates, names, etc...

Also worth nothing that I used some photos I found online as placeholders in these - if y'all have any photos you think would fit the vibe of the poster I'd love to have them to work with!

The idea here would be a large abstract geometric J making up the structure of the print.

The bars could contain either photos of the band, or of things related to themes found on the new record - Or they could just be solid colors.

An abstract, midcentury modernist collage - some of the shapes could contain photos, some could just be solid, some could be patterned, etc.. Lots of possibilities with this direction.

JASON ISBELL // CHATTANOOGA POSTER REVISED ART

JASON ISBELL // CHATTANOOGA POSTER

Here is the final artwork for the Chattanooga poster, tried to capture the same sort of vibe as the reference material without going too country/western/americana with it. I think these are going to look great printed!

This could also look really great printed with some super bright fluorescent inks:

JASON ISBELL // CHATTANOOGA TN POSTER CONCEPTS

Here are a few different directions for the Chattanooga poster, some of the captions have links to reference materials in them to help y'all visualize the idea a bit better.

The venue is an old railroad station, and Chattanooga has a rich railroad history - we thought it could be cool to something in the vein of classic railroad timetables. The idea would be to make the poster look like an authentic antique piece - the frame would contain a historic photograph - it could be cool to use silver metallic ink to really make it look like an old silver gelatin print.

While doing some research for the poster I came across these great old letterpress posters for shows in Chattanooga. The idea would be to create a similar typographic poster for the show - this is a little hard to sketch since its so type heavy. We could include photos of Jason and the band in this, and add tons of fun tongue-in-cheek classic advertising phrases.

This concept is a little more modern - a very minimal and graphic poster featuring a Tennessee riverboat. Simplicity is key here - a simple illustration of the boat up top - and some abstract lines representing water take up the bulk of the composition. Band name & show info are at the bottom in a really simple and classic type treatment.
