chicano batman // update 9/18

Had the thought over the weekend that it could be cool to add a little cigarette and some smoke for some more visual interest, could be cool...

CHICANO BATMAN POSTER CONCEPTS

Here are a few rough concepts for the poster - all of these are inspired by lyrics on the new record. Visually I'm mostly referencing old tropicalia imagery, psyche posters, op art, and hand painted signage. I think any of these could look really awesome finished up and printed with some super-bright inks.

inspired by the song La Jura - a smashed up police car out in the desert - a psychedelic type treatment spells out the band name in the smoke billowing from the hood.

This is a reference to The Taker Story - I thought it could be cool to do something with a gorilla as a nod to the book Ishmael (which I assume was part of the inspiration for the song). The frame shape and checkerboard patterns are references to the fonda theater (the stage surrounds and floor, respectively). This idea could also be cool if we used some weird edited/collaged photography in the frame and incorporated more illustrative elements with it (see below for quick example)

This idea is much more general and not inspired by any song in particular - a goofy little illustration of a tiger holding a snake in its mouth in the center, with the band name surrounding. Again utilizing loud colors and patterns in a psychedelic frame. Typography and general vibe of this are inspired by old advertising and packaging design.
